May 31, 2015 - Burning Homework

What does every kid want to do after school is done?  Burn all their notes and homework of course!  Noah, Ethan and Ryan built a fire and got right to it.  There were many shouts of joy coming from the backyard.  Yay for summer!

May 30, 2015 - $100 and a Garden

Noah has been doing a lot of umping for Little League games this spring and he decided to cash his checks today and get his first $100 bill.  Pretty exciting stuff for him.

We finally got around to planting the garden today too.  You would think that working with all those boys, I would not have the dirtiest hands at the end of the day but I did.  How does that happen?  Dan's hands were clean!  And he ran away from me when I tried to touch his face. But we got the garden in.  We planted corn, carrots, peppers (3 kinds), beans, peas, cucumbers, pumpkins and sunflowers.  Now to see if it grows.

May 29, 2015 - Last Day of School

Today was the last day of school.  Noah's last day of grade school, can you believe it!?  We all went to school for morning devotion followed by the video yearbook and 8th grade videos.  We've been watching these videos now for quite a few years and it's kind of bittersweet to have one of them belong to our child.  After the videos we usually head to Mt. Simon for games, a grillout and water balloon fight but this year the chance of rain was too high so the kids were all dismissed after the videos.  It wasn't raining yet so we went to the park anyways with Lendts and had our own grillout and water balloon fight.  Not quite the same thing but still fun.

May 28, 2015 - Dirt and a Sunset

Today we got a truckload of black dirt delivered for our garden.  You don't realize how much that is until it's dumped in your yard and you know you get to spread it out.   We finished the day with a beautiful sunset.  You can't ever get enough of that.

May 27, 2015 - Entertainment Night

It's the last week of school so that means Entertainment Night.  The kids get pretty excited for this night.  Some of the kids from Noah's class did a Family Feud skit where they picked people from the audience to come up on stage and play.  Noah was the host and Dan and I got to go up.  It was pretty fun.

Ethan and some kids from his class did a skit about a boy whose responses were always delayed and didn't match the situation he was in.  Ethan's character was Fred, who went to the doctor to try to find out what was wrong with him. Ryan, Jonah and Paul all played Fred as well in different situations.  It was pretty cute and funny.

Bryce's class did a skit full of jokes.  Some of them were pretty good.  Bryce told a few jokes about farm animals.  It was pretty cute and he got some laughs so that was great!

Sawyer's class sang a couple songs that they had been working on throughout the year.  It was pretty cute and he was so proud to be up on stage with his brothers.

Then of course there was kindergarten graduation, band awards and Presidential Academic Fitness Awards.  It was weird to think that this will be the last time that all our kids will be on that stage for Entertainment Night.  Time flies.

May 26, 2015 - American Pride

We're a day late on this one but I figured it was still ok to include a picture for Memorial Day.  Sawyer got this flag from the greeter at Wal-Mart and he rode all the way home with it flying out the window.  He thought it was pretty cool.

May 25, 2015 - Happy Birthday Dan

Today is Dan's birthday and we started it out with a morning kayak trip.  Karen and I went together in the double and Dan went solo and much faster.  The lake was as smooth as glass when we started out so we took advantage of the smooth sailing and went for quite a distance.  It was pretty relaxing until we went under the bridge and scared up a ton of birds.  Not my favorite moment but I survived it...twice!
The day warmed up as we went along and everyone headed down to the dock for some swimming.  The kids had a good time jumping off the dock one last time and kayaking before we had to head home.

Then it was home again.  We finished the day with a Blizzard birthday cake for Dan.  Not a bad way to spend a birthday!

May 24, 2015 - The Perfect Light

It turned out to be a rather rainy day today so we didn't really get out on the water but we still had fun playing games, reading (Dan was actually caught reading a book!) and just hanging out.  Gus, Karen, Dan and I were out on the patio playing cards and Karen was teasing me that I was in the perfect light for a selfie.  So of course, a few were taken because Gus loves to make fun of the number of pictures I take.  But if I didn't take them no one would!

The kids had a great time playing games inside.  It maybe wasn't that best weather but it sure was a relaxing, fun day.

May 23, 2015 - Farmer Dan and Kayaking

We've decided to attempt a garden again this year.  This one will be a bit bigger than our last one though.  Dan borrowed a tiller from our friends and started "cultivating the land" as he puts it.  This is as close as this family gets to farming.

Afterwards, we headed out to the Falkenberg's for Memorial Day weekend.  We all went down to the water and enjoyed just relaxing.  Which after a busy few weeks felt amazing.  We're looking forward to this weekend spent with friends.
